AMORPHA+ – Action for Managing Invasive Alien Plants in Protected Habitats and Areas

AMORPHA+ strengthens V4-Western Balkan cooperation in managing the invasive alien plant Amorpha fruticosa in wetland, floodplain, riparian and other protected habitats. Through knowledge transfer, pilot mechanical removal, field learning, school awareness activities and public communication, the project will test a practical and repeatable model for invasive plant control, biodiversity protection and long-term habitat management.

The project responds to the spread of Amorpha fruticosa, which forms dense stands, suppresses native vegetation and threatens valuable open habitats. In Montenegro, special attention is given to wet meadows and seasonally flooded habitats of Skadar Lake National Park.

AMORPHA+ will apply non-chemical management approaches. Project partners will exchange experience on mechanical removal, biomass handling, prevention of regrowth, follow-up monitoring, stakeholder involvement and environmental education. The results will be translated into practical recommendations for protected-area managers, institutions, local communities and other relevant actors.
